5 Tips to Take Care of Your New Windshield

This way the adhesives can settle down and give a better grip to the glass.  So, it’s always advised not to use the car for one hour after installing a new windshield.

 

Leave the windows open

By leaving the windows open for a while after your windshield is installed, you allow gasses to enter and expand inside the car. It allows the glass and adhesive  chemical compounds to react to each other and boost this process; by doing so; you are helping your windshield become more complacent and fixed into the vehicle’s body.

 

Retention tape

We know that these tapes certainly don’t add to the car’s aesthetics or aerodynamics, but you should keep them in place for at least 24–48 hours. This ensures that the windshield has had the recommended time to fix its position in the vehicle’s moldings.

 


Don’t go to the carwash

We know you want your car to look clean and fresh after a new windshield. But that isn’t the best thing for your car, especially its windshield. Going to the carwash and exposing your windshield to the chemicals used in the soaps and polish, you’re likely to deteriorate the integrity of the adhesive and the retention tapes. This can cause the windshield to lose its bond, leading to further damage.

Be gentle

Don’t drive your car on a bumpy road, and don’t slam your vehicle’s door very harshly. These actions are bad for a new windshield because they don’t allow it to fix its position or even harm the newly fitted part’s integrity. Which is why, experts recommend being gentle with the car for at least 24 hours.
